We are going to live a hundred lives

Note: This is not an article but a rambling in my mind, what's gonna happen next!

Still from the “Summer Wars” movie by Mamoru Hosoda

Think about the endless number of metaverses in AR & VR. Which one do I choose? We can count the number of social media sites right now but do we have a count of the number of Reddit, discord communities? With AR/VR we’ll be part of these big and micro communities-living an endless number of lives, multiple layers to reality, one day we can be pilots another day something else.

The world where digital clothing will take over.

Then comes the question of what is real. Or what we want to believe is real, the place where we feel lonely or the place where we have a sense of belonging.

It might not take a long time before we lose the sense of reality as we are already living a dopamine-driven life of social media. What if we get to be in a more immersive world then what are going to be the consequences?

Does a dating app mean something to us now, do we really want to buy furniture or have an empty apartment that allows the freedom? The freedom of having anything in my virtual world or just augmenting our
blank canvases (physical objects) with the things that can change based on our mood.

Rules of the physical world and dating will bend.

Do we really need amazing food or just bland food packets made of a balanced mixture that can be augmented will olfactory headsets. That will make us believe that we are eating our favourite dish anytime, without the need to cook or order. But in reality, we would be eating that bland food packet.

We would be eating virtual food.

A lot of services will vanish in thin air. Are we going to feel the need to travel when we can just travel with the ease of my sofa? Are we going to get off the sofa when we can just watch or play a board game with a friend anytime (virtual presence)?

Friends will intangible. Source: Hololens

Do we need to buy a luxury car when we can buy an avatar/skin for the car and make it look like whatever we want it to be? Are we then going to buy just a physical object that is capable of carrying us from point A to point B? And customizing the look based on our personality. (Note: this is all possible if we are all wearing the AR glasses otherwise the person without glasses will see a piece of junk.)

We’ll change objects with a flick of a gesture.

How are we gonna work? Everyone at home? When we’ll can control bots from home for work that requires physical work.

Everything will happen from home.

Another side of work is where we don’t need to be physically present and we already know that it might become normal after the pandemic is over…

These mini ramblings and questions will continue…
Let me know how you foresee the future in the comments.
